kite festival in DC … and finally some spring weather. cherry blossoms are not ready yet but that didn’t impact the kite festival which is part of the cherry blossom festival here in the city. while the kids love kites, its the fathers who rule the sky

today the supreme court will have first of two hearings on gay marriage. and the press has reported about the line that is forming outside the court of those supporting gay marriage or those that don’t. but they are not talking about the majority of people in the line … like those two men in this photo … who actually have no opinion on gay marriage at all. these two, number 2 and 3 in the line are getting paid by lobbyists to wait in line for them so that come Tuesday, probably a minute before the doors open, the lobbyists can swap places. now these two gentlemen certainly get paid for their waiting, and i hope also get an extra tip for having to endure the cold, rain and snow but maybe the press should report a bit more about this practice so that the next time we see a long line infront of a building here in DC chances are that corporate interests (or special interests) are ahead in line of those that actually care about a given matter.

fighting irish … happy saint patrick’s day my irish/catholic friends. i will admit i’ve never understood why a mostly protestant nation was so obsessed celebrating an irish, catholic saint but i guess americans need an excuse to drink. taken earlier today during the parade in downtown dc.

i went to the forward on climate rally at the Washington Monument earlier today. despite the freezing temperatures they said that about 40,000 people showed up for the rally. i will post probably one or two more but here is the whole flickr set.
